Default Canon 5D Discontinued

Was in Jessops today looking for an UWA lens but that would work with a full frame sensor in case I wanted to trade up from my 20D in the future and the assistant told me that the 5D has been discontinued. Apparently Canon haven't formally announced it yet so that they can move existing stocks

Presumably there will be a replacement?

Just done a Google and it seems like it is only Jessops that are saying this although Ken Rockwell reckons the 7D will be announced in August. Not many rumblings about this on DPReview which is usually well up on this type of gossip.

Your assistant should be discontinued. Why don't you suggest to him that he is perfectly qualified for a long career behind the counter at McDonalds?

Seems like it is coming up in all Jessops stores - their system reports 'Discontinued' so if it is a error it is the systems guy and not the assistant.

Wink

It's not an error.

It's quite common for kit, particularly printers to come up on the database as 'discontinued'....all it means it that main warehouse wont be getting in anymore from the supplier...it doesn't mean the manufacturer has necessarily discontinued the item....or that there aren't any left in the warehouse even.

I'm a bit 'miffed' on this one.....Assistant should have known this!

5D Body only or with 24-105mm?
Both stocks still around......

go back in and ask for one to be transfered from another branch, or one from warehouse

Incidentally,

On the subject of older stock and some real 'discontinued' items, here's a list of the Jessops clearance stores..

http://www.jessops.com/clearancestores

We've had some real bargains in our store...heavy % discounts with more to come...Unfortunately we can't get specific items in, but worth a regular look in to your local clearance branch, as deliveries are daily.

I would buy more myself if I knew for sure I have a job once the store closes

The Nikon 4500 was discontinued a couple of years ago,but these cams are still available ,but cannot believe the 5D is off the shelves.
