Red face Help needed with an image!

I have never tried any of the photoshop type programmes before so this is all very new to me.
I downloaded a free version of photofiltre and had a play with an image I already took of a candlestick given to me for Xmas this year.
I've twiddled and tweaked it and although I kind of like the finished image, the edging I feel lets it down HUGELY!
Any thoughts or ideas on how I can change the framing or outline of the image?
I am a complete illiterate when it comes to this sort of thing so please be gentle with me
Jo

I'm not too sure what features your software has but using the 'feather' feature in Photoshop would've blended the edges in to the background more gently. You could use some sort of blur on the edges if you can.

You can use the photo masque feature in photofiltre to get blurred edges - not sure if thats what you mean

Thanks for the tips Andy and greypoint
I'm actually trying to use some plugins for photofiltre that I've just downloaded (see other thread), but I can't get them to unzip!
