Default LED Ring Flash

Good morning,

For a few weeks I have been considering purchasing a LED ring flash for macro work from eBay at about £33 which is a bearable price for flower/still life work.

Does anyone use one of these and how good are they?

I am a bit concerned as I expect they will not be as good as an actual flashing flash for capturing sharp images as well as good images of moving insects.

They seem more of a ring of LED lights to give an even illumination to still objects.

Would I be pleased with one of these or would it be best to avoid the false economy and save a bit longer for a Marumi ring flash?

Regards,
Andrew.

No experience myself but if you 'Google' LED macro ring flash reviews there are some user opinions out there.

I would wait on getting a LED ring flash until you have read reviews, I seem to remember they are not really bright enough. We had a thread going a long while ago on a DIY ring flash using the pop up flash as the main source, I still use it even now, it works very well.

Thanks for the link to that thread Christine. I think the best option is to clobber up some LED contraption for home shots and keep my money towards a proper ring flash.

Regards,
Andrew.
