Default Capture NX (Nikon Software)

Thanks for that. I just selected upgrade NX in my copy and received the following message....

This is to notify you that a new version of Capture NX version 1.0.1 is available for download. This version adds support for the Nikon D80 digital-SLR camera and includes fixes for some issues that occurred with Capture NX version 1.0.

Please visit the
download page and select the Capture NX Trial version 1.0.1 download for details and instructions on upgrading a full version of Capture NX 1.0 to version 1.0.1.

I was hoping it would update itself as Capture 4 did but I just have to visit the download page an install trial again.

Thanks for the ' heads up ' Subzero.

My version 1.0 works fine ( no bugs discovered yet ), so I will wait and see what a future upgrade may bring.

Foxy Bob, I see we were posting a response at the same time. It will be interesting to hear if you find any noticeable improvements over v1.0.

After having to uninstall my non regional copy of NX I installed the 1.01 download. The most noticeable thing about this new version is the labelled images in the browser remain listed with non labelled images. This in my opinion is better as when they were placed at the bottom by label it was difficult to find an alternative of a shot already labelled. I believe labels are only available in a licenced copy of NX. Position of menus is still irritating and they keep moving and vanishing. I have processed two photos in 1.01 and as I process more and find anything different I will post.

Just installed this update, my antispyware program reports a possible trojan horse each time I run Capture NX ?? It looks as though it attempts to ring home if you are connected to the web!

I dare say that will be the updater checking for updates on startup.

I have processed about five pics now. V1.01 has hung twice. This occurs when saving or converting an image. It appears to be saving but takes ages, this is normal on my system but I expect two mins of conversion time max with NX. This afternoon I left it to it and on return 40 minutes later windows task manager shows capture NX 99% processor occupancy. I ended the process and rebooted. More recently I save an image and closed the program, nothing happened so I looked a task manager and again Capture NX 99% occupancy for over five minutes. Again I had to end process to get my machine back.

My advise is do not upgrade to V1.01 as there is little difference but much more hassle. I will be writing to Nikon and expect v1.02 very soon.

Foxy Bob,

I can't believe those times. I have been going mad experimenting with control points, and nothing longer than 2 mins on a conversion. I lost the edit list once and had a cache problem once but other than that I have not had any problems, and am well impressed with NX. After that tale of doom I will not go for an upgrade for a bit. Maybe V1.4

I may have been suffering hardware issues yesterday. Today I have processed 10 photos using NX. To save RAM I now edit in NX, save NEF then save TIFF in a folder on desktop. Close NX entirely then open TIFF in CS for further editting. I find this much faster and without any problems today. Some of todays photos have 20 or so control points. I now have confidence in NX V1.01.
