Default POTW 31st Jan 16

A number of images made my short list this week but didn't quite make the final choice by a whisker..

So my choice for POTW is Light & Shade by Robski. I like the composition & its very difficult subject, with the exposure well handled to bring out the texture. Great shot

Others on my short list - Dubmill mussel beds by Ade G - I just felt that it would have benefited from a crop - either a bit off the bottom, or a bigger bit off the top. Also three shots by Nigel G - Winter on the Frome, Chalk Monoliths & Swanage Old Pier - all shot is fairly flat lighting conditions which hasn't helped the shots but I think could have benefited form a boost in contract.

On the subject of boosting contrast, I have a technique I've learned from Guy Gowan which gives separate control over the highlights & shadows & is much superior than the usual S curves adjustment layer method. With your permission Nigel, I'll write it up in a separate thread using a couple of those images as examples?
