Default Photoshop CS2 doing weird things

I am having troubles with cs2 :-The programme keeps crashing (esp when trying to open an image) each time it crashes I get the Microsoft 'send error dialog'.
also other weird things like when I left click on a image with the magnifying glass tool, the image gets smaller instead of bigger (I cannot see any settings to rectify this). It looks as if the whole programme is corrupt. I was thinking of reinstalling CS2 - what do you think?

Pressing the ALT key with the zoom (magnifying glass) selected will cause the option to zoom out, is the ALT key jammed on the keyboard?

Stephen, When I hold the alt key down it zooms the image up but as soon as I release it zooms the image down. The alt key does not look stuck but it is behaving as if it is - will investigate more.
Thanks

Christine, No I have not loaded anything new for ages. Also I keep the anti virus, and anti spyware right up to date.

Just remebered that I still have Photoshop 7 loaded. Tried the zoom tool in there and it works perfectly. This would seem to rule out a keyboard problem. The crashes and weird things only seem to be happening in CS2.
