Default Canon 55-250 IS Lens and Polarisers

I've just purchased the Canon 55-250 IS lens to go with my new (still waiting for) 500d and haven't got my new polariser yet, but am a bit confused about how I'm going to use the polariser, as the end zoom part of this lens rotates when it autofocuses.

I don't want to stop using a polariser, but as I have never had a lens like this before, I'm not quite sure how it will work. If I autofocus then rotate the polariser, will that damage the lens? I think my 18-55 IS kit lens is going to be the same too.

Sorry to sound so stupid!

No. It won't damage anything, but the polariser will need re-adjustment after every change of focus. If you're using manual focus, then changing the polarizer rotation may well also inadvertently adjust the focus.

Thanks for your reply.

I actually tried the lens with the polariser yesterday and it was easy to rotate the polariser without affecting the lens, and just takes a bit of adjusting after focusing.

As you found out it won't damage the lens, only some readjustment after focus.

I recently bought this lens too and can't fault it for quality and price. I'd be interested to see how you get on with it as there have been some mixed reviews, but mostly from what I've seen it has got thumbs up based on the cost and what you get for your money.
