What's In Todays Bag?
Go back in time, to about the late 1970s (what do you mean ? you were not born then!).
Look into a typical camera club photographers bag and it was very likely you would have found the following gear. a)Two camera bodies (one for B&W, and the other for colour slide work). b)The following lenses-28mm/35mm/50mm/85mm and wait for it, a "big" telephoto lens ie 135mm. c)A collection of many coloured filters (red, green, orange, yelow), a close up lens, cable release and a small manual flash gun. d)A couple of B&W films and some colour slide films. Note there were no Zoom lenses and no large spare battery packs in the bag. Its year 2006 now, so what would be common/typical in todays bag?? regards Subzero. |

A common sight in my bag, actually a large Lowepro Photo-trekker AW II rucksack
a) Two Digital SLR bodies, one main and one reserve in case of failure b) Two spare batteries for each type of body c) 200-400mmVr f4 lens attached to main body d) 24-120VR Zoom lens for close work e) 80-400mmVR lens as reserve for 200-400 lens f) Manfrotto monopod (on side) g) Four 2GB Compact flash cards in wallet h) Two teleconverters 1.4X and 1.7X i) Two lens cleaning cloths j) Flask of black decaf coffee k) Sandwiches with surprise filling l) Suncream, factor 20 m) Wet wipes to remove sun cream from hands n) Chewing gum o) One pair of Aviation rated ear defenders p) Car keys fitting 170bhp six speed turbo diesel saloon car Think thats it, a far cry from the late 70's. I was born but aged six! I remember using a 110? film camera for static display at airshows and our Vauxhall Viva and Chevette!!

Hi Stephen,
Well that's a pretty impressive set up, I love the bit about "one reserve in case of failure", sadly a common statement these days. In contrast to the 70's, all zoom lenses and many batteries. regards Subzero. |
