I use CS mostly for JPEG/Tiffs etc.

I tried lightroom, (twice), it's far too slow, so I have gone back to Raw Shooter.

I'm still looking for a catalog/library software package that will catalog both the pictures on my PC and one external discs that a) won't be too big file size and b) won't cost me an arm and leg. Most recently tested Imatch but not what I wan't so still looking.

I have used portfolio for ages and works really well, no adjustments though, thats why I am trying Lightroom.

Is LR slow based on limited ram. I have 1gb and seems fine.

CS, NeatImage, picasa and PSP-10.

Happily will try any freeware or trial version but will stick only impact is sound and a new one, not just a mimic.

Don't forget this extremely good, free software suite once you have tried it you will wonder how you managed without.

I've been a PS CS3 beta from the day it was released (just love the program), but not enough to pay the upgrade price.

I also use Lightroom, due to previously being a Rawshooter premium user.

I was totally sold on this program until the final release. However a new feature is driving me up the wall, and that is the import of raw photos.

My preferred method is to import my CR2 files direct from my f/card, view and discard any images that I don't want, before proceeding with my raw conversions.
Unfortunately Adobe in their wisdom decided that if you want to use this method all images will first be converted to DNG.

As I don't want to convert to DNG it's now necessary to import files to a folder then import into lightroom from this folder.

All this is time consuming. I guess you all know how long it takes to import 2-4gb of files onto your desktop.

CS2 & Bridge ACR of all RAW conversion & editing - not tried Lightroom yet is it a significant step forward over Bridge?

Also use Pictures2exe or ProShow Gold for creating slideshows.

What are the downsides of doing this? I though DNG was supposed to be a universal format and therefore likly to have long term support which can't necessarily be said for manufactures native formats - or have I been suckers by the Adobe marketing blurb

I've been usingthis since Christine first mentioned it and am very satisfied. I much prefer it to Picasa. When I combine Faststone with DPP I find that I rarely have to open PS anymore.
