I think advise given above is right to the point.
Not every format (CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, and then, unfinished vs finalized CD/DVD while burring) is compatible with every player at home. Especial attention is for older players that are very fussy for one media or format and not another.
With computers especially again old ones/older OSs, you need a decoder to open up the DVDs.
