Amazingly, some of the best macro photographs are coming from PnS cameras or even Video cams!
There was a firmware hack that would make certain PnS cameras, perfect for macro but I have forgotten which (Had a abbreviation name).
Anyways. Excellent image.

I think that the reason that compacts can be so good for macro is two fold. Firstly the actual focal length of the lens is very low (to get a 35mm equivalent wide angle) coupled with the small sensor gives much more DoF than a DSLR with a macro lens. Also the lens design allows extremely close focusing, which can be great though some subjects won't let you close enough. I have just ordered a new macro lens to play with ready for insect season.
