For those who like to see a sample of image by 5D MKII, check this one:
LINK Especially look at images 36 through 40 that are the real test of that unheard off super-Hi ISO. IQ seems droped a lot but its alway good to have the power of taking something when others show only black picture.

You say there is no additional cost, well in the UK it's coming in at almost double the cost of the 5DMk1 £1200 |

The original price for the 5D was over £2,000 and as always drops over time so I expect the 5Dll will follow a similar pattern so any one who wants one and has the patience hang on.

Yes I meant when compare to originally introduced price of 5D, 5D II is even a tad cheaper here at introduction of US $ 2699 (Without kit 35-105mm L lens that cost US$3500) is a very promising thing Canon did.
You are also absolutely right that with a pinch of patience, one can save a lot not only on 5D MK II but on almost every new electronic gadget in the market. In fact I am hearing of a hectic Canon's rebate on old 5D is to be announced soon and good for those who understand value of right tool for right job rather that shinny thing to show. Honestly I am a bad person in listening to myself and may get the new one as I am not sure if saving money can get me more time to live... Only thing need to settle with myself is why I am not going to get the Sony's full frame A900 at higher MP and faster burst mood shooting that I personally find very useful in sport and action shooting. As for 1080P video recording, HDMI out put port, and most importantly, ability to use your very hard to earned L class lenses on you video machine, I think it make me very trilled. About 15 minuts max of recording at a time, it is another issue but I think this can be handled with no problem. I really like to see the video clips on the high screen HD TV and if it match for what we get these days form bluray or TV stations, I will be very very happy to have the feature. I guess this feature is just a twick of software and Canon or other future manufacturers (With live view ability) will not really need to add any material in the camera's body so to add to the cost of this feature (Or for that matter weight) So the addition is really a big plus brought in by the ingenuity of Canon's engineers and is only to follow by others soon.

Thanks for the link, Derek. Incredible. I haven't been worried about upgrading till now, but I'll have to start saving.

I agree. I don't really see the point of a movie mode on a still camera, especially a DSLR, when a dedicated video camera would do the job better. It's just one more thing to go wrong and just strikes me as a gimmick.

I said earlier that I had no interest in upgrading from the 5D, I'm now having second thoughts. I do understand that if you fire of a "still" whilst using video the video stops for one second, not sure how much of a problem this is. Harry "Hi Sassan, I agree with you regarding the quality of video, but it's a feature that I've no interest in." Sassan, I may live to regret that statement ![]() Last edited by wolfie; 23-09-08 at 23:50. |
