Could any of you D300 owners help me? It's probably me being silly but when I set my white balance to Pre-manual setting,(wait for Pre to flash, take shot, make sure "good" in viewfinder) I'm getting a blue/green cast!

Here are two shots 1st showing what I think is a blue cast
and the 2nd seems to be right (the white background is whitish) both taken with Manual white balance.

Lello,
As you noted, you'll see Gd in the viewfinder if the camera's measurement of white balance was successful. However, you need to place a neutral reference under the lighting you want to measure. While the PRE icon is flashing, take a picture of the reference object. You have to be careful that there is no glare from your reference and that it is under the same lighting as your subject. Measuring white balance by using your printer as a reference did get you closer but white balance still seems off a little. Here's what I got by adjusting white balance in your jpegs. Dave |

Although I don't use D300, or any Nikon for that matter
![]() It's also useful for stetting manual exposure in a 'studio' type situation - you should get a spike bang in the middle of your histogram when you've got the exposure set correctly |

Thanks guys, I have just read the D300 manual again and there it is in black and white "Neutral gray or white object is placed under
lighting that will be used in final photograph and white balance is measured by camera" Thanks again
