Thanks Mike!
 I presume you are meaning something like a 100 / 300 mm if thats correct great sounds like a plan but can anyone advise the best place to get a cheap one that is suitable for the d5000 as the only lenses i ever see for sale are genuine or things like tamrom but they are all top dollar, surely thier must be a cheap and chearful make out thier that are reasonable. Mike the bag idea is one i use already  the salt has still managed to eat my sony but i m sure it slowed it down a lot, thats the penalty you pay for being in the fishing game lol
