Default iPhone vs. DSLR: The San Gabriels

I live within easy view of the San Gabriel mountain range in SoCal and have spent many years trying to catch views of the various weather occurrences that dance among the peaks. I've got a nice little collection of stock photos, most shot with non-DSLR long-range zoom cameras.

This week it rained and today when it cleared I expected some nice snow up there, but no. Nevertheless, my little walk gave me an opportunity to compare shooting the mountains with the iPhone I always have on my belt vs. my Canon EOS Rebel T3 which I have to purposefully dig out of the closet.

And here are the results! Second photo taken at 130mm zoom out of 300.

Heading out for groceries today, no DSLR, only the iPhone. Mountains are doing their thing again after a rain.

I pull over, stand on my toes with the phone over my head. That's all I got. Only artsy can save it... Maybe.

As it is said: "A friend in need, is a friend indeed". And yes when scenery is right, cellphone cam is a camera indeed!
I like your second image best, where clouds have embraced the mountain. Lovely.
BTW how long is it that you are residing in San Gabriel? I am asking because though now closed, many years back (I guess some 17-18 years back), there used to be a very large open air range, at the east end, just to west of mostly dried river, near the mountains that were frequently visited by us with plenty of good memories of the day and by the way there was another photographer from SG on this site that is no more active as I think she moved to Italy or something.
Seems rain is going to partly leave us for now (At least a day or two) with many partly cloudy days ahead so get your cameras handy and show us more.

Thanks Sassan. I don't actually live in San Gabriel (that's the name of the mountain range), but further inland. Close enough I guess!
