Default New Firmware for Canon 40D

As there are many lucky 40D users on this site, thought this might be of interest to them;

LINK

The firmware improves image playback and gives some more info such as remote etc. Check it if you use 40D.

Thanks for the link Sassan. I've downloaded the files but I will take my time deciding whether I will attempt to install the update. At the moment I'm not convinced the improvements are worth the risk.

Thanks for the Link Sassan. After the 1.0.4 cock-up I think I will leave mine on 1.0.3 until this one has been proven. Should only have to wait a few days to see if there are any problems with this release.

Thanks Sassan, I have downloaded it but will wait like Roy, just to make sure we are adding bugs that are not there.

I do not have the 40D, but would not hesitate in loading the new firmware. This I've done on my other Canon DSLRs without problem, including the Hacked Wasia firmware for the 300D.

However there is a long thread over on http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/re...hread=25687078 about the firmware update of the 40D.

I think why people are hesitant Harry is because Canon shipped 40D's with release 1.0.4 and nobody could open RAW's in ARC and Lightroom whearas release 1.0.3 was ok.

That's the main reason I supplied the link to the debate over on Dpreview

Well whether you like it or not, all newer 40Ds in market are coming out with this firmware. Also I remember last time I sent my XT to Canon for free sensor cleaning, they automatically put the new firmware on my body (That I didn't want as one of my older MicroDrive memory cards would not work with that firmware and in contacting Canon, they only said that they are sorry and the upgrade is only one way with no chance to down grade it to older version...

Well I have gone and done it, I have upgraded the firmware. I havn't had chance to test everything out yet but it seems okay. I will let you know if I find any problems.
