Default Canon Digital Rebel XTi

The new Canon Digital Rebel XTi (and whatever name it will be called here in the UK) announced today looks quite interesting, especially the price, features and it's effect on the price of the current model.
See Steve's Digicams story here :-

Roger

Added note :- According to the following Canon announcement this will be the 400D in the UK :-

Will be interesting to see if the 10.1mp sensor produces as little noise as the current 8mp one.

Canon says there is virtually no difference. I will be more interested in the 30D replacement whenever that happens.

WarehouseExpress say end of Sept - £650 body only

My 20D will do me until the 30D replacement drops in price.

Barring any accidents

The price is quoted at $800 body only, Which IMO leaves the 30D as the better buy, unless extra MP and self cleaning sensor is important.

Edited

I see Jessops will be pricing it a £650, body only

Isn't the RRP of the 30D over £1000 and yet it is readily available at £750? So I presume the 400D price will indeed plummet like a, well, a Canon camera price.

It'll be interesting to see the relative sales of the 400D, D80 and A100.

It is hard to improve a perfect model. As a user of both XT and 30D, my hand and neck feels a lot more ease with XT. Only if Canon could make a L quality lens similar to Tamron's 28-300mm that is extremely small and very light, then a lot of professionals with need to traveling light in view of assignment, would have a simple choice.
I hope Canon has not forgotten to add optional GPS compatibility and surely the spot metering.
