Hi Tony, welcome to this forum.
What aperture is this lens? Do you have a photo of it please?

No photo as yet as I still have to collect. However; It definately is as my description. I have discovered that it is more than 20 years old. The front glass is about 10" in dia. and it is T2.0. Apparently this was much favoured by 35mm film people as you could anamorphosise the unit and get a 800mm effective view, T3.2 lens. This is borne out by the Universal remounted screw thread on the mount. It is not Nikon mounted. I suspect that it is deleted from Nikon archives. Bi the way it is very heavy.
Regards Tony. |

Must admit that I've never heard of this lens. Would the '35mm film' be refering to cine film?

Thanks Tony. Any tele lens with a 10" dia optic is going to be a bit of a beast. If you can get some photos of it, I'm sure it would help anyone here in trying to identify it.
T2 mount is a very versatile mount, but now we only tend to see a few accessories using them. The size of that front element @ 400mm focal length suggests a very bright lens indeed. A quick guesstimate has me thinking an aperture of something like f1.0 when it's fully open!! wow! ![]() Next step I would definately recommend dropping a line/email to a specialist Nikon retailer..."Grays of Westminster" is a good place for example... They'll probably need all the details from the lens barrel etc, maybe including serial number. they might even need a photograph of it too? I've had a rummage through my copy of Hove 'Blue Book', but there's nothing matching your lens. similar lenses (assuming a 35mm film lens) estimates vary quite massively between £1000 through to £6000 for a secondhand unit (sorry to be so vague) hope this helps you Tony?

Well it would certainly be interesting to see a pic of it.
10 inch front element and 400mm focal length suggests to me this is a lens for an aerial camera. Perhaps we need to have Foxy do a close up of the kit in a Photo Reconnaissance airplane. ![]() ![]() Don |
